Sempervivum Speciale

Sempervivum, popularly known as "Hens and Chicks" or "Houseleeks," are incredibly tough succulents native to mountainous alpine regions. They are renowned for their cold hardiness, star-shaped summer blooms, and ability to thrive in extreme environments.

• The genus name is derived from the Latin semper (always) and vivus (alive), a nod to their evergreen nature and ability to withstand severe drought and frost.
• Although the name implies they live forever, they are monocarpic. The main rosette sends up a tall, striking flower stalk and dies after blooming.
•  In ancient Roman times, they were associated with the bearded god Jupiter, and people believed growing them on roofs would protect homes from lightning strikes.
